FACULTY

Tanya Pellechia - Piano

Tanya, Proprietor of Music 101, a graduate of Wellesley College, holds a BA in Music with a concentration in piano. Tanya has taught music in varied capacities including the elementary general music class in the city of Melrose as well as private piano study. She has been a busy accompanist in the area and is the resident music director at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Saugus. An active business member, Tanya can be seen around town as a member of various organizations including the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, MACA, and the board of the East Boston Savings Bank.

Stephen Sikorski - Piano, Voice, Guitar

For more than 10 years, Stephen has been an active freelance musician throughout the Boston area. He has earned his BM in Classical Composition and continued graduate study from the New England Conservatory. Stephen has a diverse musical background ranging from classical, jazz/improvisation, to rock. Performing solo, or on stage with modern bands, Stephen is comfortable teaching various types of music. He has been tenor section leader/soloist at various churches in the greater Boston area, and is currently organist and choir director of Christ Church, Waltham.

Henrik Lindqvst - Guitar

“The most thorough and engaging guitar lesson I’ve had... “ Comments such as these are what we have received since bringing Henrik aboard the Music 101 staff. Henrik, a native of Sweden, holds a degree in Guitar Performance from Berklee college of Music. He is well versed in diverse genres including classical as well as jazz guitar. Henrik takes great pride in his students, and ensures that every moment of a lesson is a learning one.

David Collins - Piano

Pianist David Collins earned a degree in composition from Western Michigan University, a graduate degree in collaborative piano from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and a doctorate in collaborative piano from New England Conservatory, Boston. He has served on the piano faculty of University of North Carolina, opera coaching staff of NEC, and accompanying staff of Boston Conservatory and Boston University. David currently teaches and conducts concert choir at Lesley University, and serves as artistic director for the Young Opera Company of New England, which performs fully-staged opera adaptations with children ages eight to eighteen.

James Woolwine - Piano, Guitar

James Woolwine is a graduate of Berklee College of Music with BA's in Performance and Music Business.  Between 15 years of guitar study and a lifetime of piano, he is competent in multiple styles and musical genres.  When not teaching he is an active freelance musician in local bands and as a soloist.  James always strives to teach his students what they desire to learn while showing the fundamentals they need to learn.

Hiro Sakaba - Guitar, Electric Bass

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Hiro holds a degree in Performance as well as Contemporary Writing & Production. In addition to a full teaching schedule, Hiro is an active performer in area GB bands. His knowledge of many genres of music enables him to tailor each lesson to the interests of the student. Hiro seamlessly integrates the fundamentals of music reading and theory into the context of modern music.

Brian Church - Piano, Guitar/Bass, Voice

Brian Church holds a BM in Music Education from The College of New Jersey, an MM in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory, and is also an accomplished bassist with the avant-noise post-punk group Tristan da Cunha with whom he has toured the midwest and released several recordings. Brian has been an elementary music educator in the Melrose Public School System teaching at the Roosevelt, Hoover and Horace Mann Schools, and has used his skills to help create almost 30 original songs with his students under his curriculum.

Erin Holmes - Voice, Piano

Erin holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory. For more than 6 years she has been active in local opera productions on the East coast as well as international roles in Spain and Italy. Along with singing and teaching, Erin's fluency in Spanish enables her to serve as a diction coach. Her attention to detail and conscientious nature ensures her students achieve their personal best.

Nicholas Place - Piano

Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a Collaborative Emphasis from Ithaca College. During his time at IC, Nick performed in many solo concerts and chamber music concerts as well as in recitals with vocalists and instrumentalists. Nick is currently attending The Boston Conservatory in Boston, MA and will graduate in 2012 with two degrees: Master of Music in Piano Performance and Master of Music in Collaborative Piano. Nick is also an active member of the New Music scene at The Boston Conservatory as well as holding the position of Music Director for the Open Theatre Project based in Boston.

Sara Weaver - Piano, Voice

Sara holds a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College, where she studied Patrice Pastore. While pursuing voice at Ithaca, Sara also accompanied singers and was trained in both Vocal Pedagogy and the Feldenkrais Method. While continuing her vocal studies she is currently a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Sara has a broad teaching resume which ranges from classical repertoire to musical theater, and incorporates the renowned Alexander Technique as often as possible.

Alaina Bolton - Voice, Piano

Alaina holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from New England Conservatory. Having performed opera, musical theater, art song, and new works throughout the region, Alaina is a versatile freelance vocalist specializing in classical music. As a teacher, Alaina tailors lessons to guide each student in becoming the best musician that they can be, emphasizing the development of a free, healthy technique and a strong foundation of musical literacy.

Jennifer Herzig - Piano, Violin

Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Illinois as well as a Master of Music from the Longy School of Music. She made her European debut as soloist with the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in Kievin 2010, and has extensive chamber and orchestral experience. In addition to being a violinist, Jennifer is also an accomplished pianist. She studied piano for over 13 years and regularly performs as an accompanist and church musician. Jennifer has 6 years of experience teaching piano and violin to both children and adults bringing a creative and energetic approach to traditional methods.
