   Small Ensemble

Ages 5+*

Use the skills you learn in your private lessons to make music with others! Students will work weekly with a faculty coach in groups of 2-4 to learn the special skill of ensemble playing or singing. Students will sharpen their rhythm, note-reading, listening, and performing skills through this experience.  All ensembles will perform in our group recital.

*Open to current M101 private lesson students only.

Days:  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 
*Groups meet for 30 or 45 minutes, once a week.

Specific times will be assigned once groups are formed.
Cost: $285 (30 mins) or $355 (45 mins), plus sheet music cost.
Location: Music 101 (57 Upham St Melrose) 

Instructor: Will be assigned as groups form.


Young Singers
Ages 6-9

Explore your love of singing and make some friends! In our educational vocal ensemble, students develop important musical and vocal skills as they learn to sing as a group. Students will learn rhythm and note-reading, finding and matching pitch, proper breathing and singing techniques, and ear-training skills. Students with lesson experience will get a chance to see how to apply those skills to singing, while students new to music will get a great first musical experience. The class will culminate in a performance at the group recital.

No previous music lesson experience required.

Day/Time:  Thursdays, 3:00 - 3:45;    Thursdays, 4:15 -5:00 P.M.

Music Explorers

Ages 3 (with adult) or 4-5

Music Explorers is a first step in developing your child’s lifelong love of music!  This class relies on movement in conjunction with music and rhythm to engage the young student and build essential skills for further musical study.  Utilizing Dalcroze Eurythmics principles, children will listen, sing, and move while learning the basics of rhythm, melody, and musical patterns.

No previous music lesson experience required.

Adult Group Guitar

Have you always wanted to play the guitar? Have you learned a bit of guitar in the past and want to learn more? Here is your chance! Learn guitar for the first time or refresh your skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
Topics to be covered include:

-Parts of the guitar, their function, and tuning

-Proper technique

-Note reading, chord charts, and other forms of notation

-Strumming patterns

-Open position chords

*No previous music lesson experience required.
Students must have their own guitars to participate in class.
